Minnesota Wild overtake San Jose 8-7

In a game that could only be described as a rollercoaster on ice, the Minnesota Wild outlasted the San Jose Sharks with an 8-7 Overtime victory at Xcel Energy Center on April 9, 2025. Fans were treated to a goal-fest reminiscent of the high-scoring affairs of yesteryear, with both teams lighting the lamp early and often.

The Wild's offensive onslaught was led by Joel Eriksson Ek, who recorded a hat trick faster than you can say "hat trick," (ended with 4) and Kirill Kaprisov , who chipped in two goals and an assist, both in their highly anticipated debuts from long injuries.

Not to be outdone, the Sharks' Macklin Celebrini tallied three goals and two assists, doing his best to keep the game within reach and give the Wild a run for their money.

Defensively, it was a night the goaltenders might prefer to forget. The Wild's Marc Andre Fleury faced a barrage of shots, making 24 saves, including some clutch stops in the dying minutes to seal the win. On the flip side, the Sharks' Alexandar Georgiev was under siege, turning away 36 shots but ultimately unable to stem the Wild tide.

This barnburner of a game has significant implications for the Wild as they continue their quest for playoff positioning in the Western Conference. Demonstrating they can win not just with grit but with a goal-scoring bonanza, the Wild have shown they're ready to tango with the best.

Up next, the Wild will look to keep their sticks hot against Calgary on Friday April 11, aiming to build on this momentum and perhaps give the scoreboard another workout. Meanwhile, the Sharks will attempt to regroup and tighten up defensively as they face the Edmonton Oilers, hoping to turn the tide and keep their young confidence afloat.
